WHO WE ARE

About Us

The Colorado Black Civic Engagement Commission (CBCEC) is committed to amplifying the voice, power, and participation of Black Coloradans in all aspects of civic life — from voting and policy advocacy to community leadership and public service.

We believe that meaningful democracy is built when historically marginalized communities are not only included — but engaged, empowered, and equipped to influence decisions that shape their lives. Our mission is to remove barriers to civic participation, elevate Black leadership, and ensure that Colorado’s public institutions reflect, respond to, and are accountable to Black communities.

Guided by principles of equity, justice, and shared prosperity, CBCEC focuses on:

  • Encouraging voter registration, education and turnout among Black Coloradans.

  • Supporting civic leadership and public-service pathways for Black youth and adults.

  • Facilitating engagements between Black communities and civic institutions — government bodies, nonprofits, businesses and neighborhood coalitions.

  • Advocating for policy changes and institutional reforms that advance social, economic, and political equity for Black Coloradans.

  • Measuring and strengthening the impact of our work through data-driven practices and community-led feedback.

Founded on the belief that thriving communities require inclusive civic participation, CBCEC works to build a Colorado where Black lives, voices, and leadership are strong, respected, and empowered. We envision a future in which Black Coloradans shape the policies, systems and outcomes that affect them, and in doing so, contribute to a more equitable and vibrant state for all.

We invite you to join us — as a voter, a volunteer, a leader, or an ally — to help create the civic culture Colorado needs and deserves.
